Boulder Consultants provided structural engineering services for the refurbishment and extension of an existing period property on Woodstock Road, Oxford. The project involved transforming the rear of the home to create a more open and flexible family living space, while retaining the character of the original building.
 

The proposed works required careful consideration of the existing rear section of the property, including the removal of ground floor external walls to create a new open-plan kitchen and dining space. Boulder developed structural solutions to support the alterations, allowing larger openings and improved connections between the existing house and the new extension.
 

The single-storey rear extension incorporated a contemporary design approach with roof glazing and large openings to maximise natural light, requiring detailed coordination between the architectural intent and structural requirements. Particular attention was given to integrating the new structure sensitively with the existing period property.
 

Through close collaboration with the client and design team, Boulder helped deliver a considered refurbishment that successfully balances modern family living with the constraints and character of an established residential building.
